About Sousan Mohammadi Itayim
Sousan Mohammadi Itayim is orginally from Iran. She has been living in Cyprus for the past 30 years with her husband who is a consultant and their son who is working in Dubai. Sousan is an economist by profession. She obtained a bachelor's degree in economics at the American University of Beirut and did her post graduate studies in economics at Vanderbilt University in the U.S.A. She taught economics for 22 years both in the U.S. and at Intercollege (now University of Nicosia) in Cyprus.
But art has always been Sousan's true passion. Her first introduction to art was through her mother who is a painter. Although over the years Sousan has received training and instruction at the hands of a number of accomplished artists, both in Cyprus and in other countries where she has lived, Sousan's art has developed mainly through personal effort and years of experimentation in search of the medium and technique which would best express her inner feelings and thoughts.
Sousan uses collage, acrylic paint and mixed media to create semi-abstract rendition of subject matter that fire her imagination. Her paintings are alive with rhythm and harmony. The eye feasts on a patchwork of shapes, colors and textures which create a world both real and imaginary. Partial abstraction allows her to synthesize emotional and visual experiences into powerful pictorial structures.
